Electric vehicles (update ) IEA

Electric vehicles With over 2% of global car sales, the electric car fleet is expanding quickly. Ambitious policy announcements have been critical in stimulating the electric mobility transition in major vehicle markets. Policies have major influences on the development of electric mobility. Policy approaches to promote the deployment of EVs typically start with a vision statement and a set of targets. An initial step is the adoption of electric vehicle and charging standards. Economic incentives and regulatory measures are often coupled with other policies that increase the value proposition of EVs. Such policies often aim to harness the multiple co-benefits arising from greater electrification of transport, most prominently energy diversification in a sector that is 90% dependent on oil products and the reduction of local pollutant and GHG emissions. Measures that provide crucial incentives to scale up the availability of vehicles with low and zero tailpipe emissions include f

Tesla's India launch (25 January 2021) update

How Tesla's India launch will pan out? The world's most valuable automobile manufacturer registered a local company in India earlier this month, a step towards its entry in the country, expected to be as early as mid-2021. Tesla plans to import and sell the Model 3 in India for around $65,000-$75,000 - roughly double the price in the U.S. market, sources familiar with the plans said. This means it will compete in India's even smaller luxury EV segment that has recently started seeing interest from the likes of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Daimler's Mercedes-Benz. But, Tesla is not just competing with luxury auto makers. The Elon Musk-owned company is also making inroads into India's fledgling electric vehicle market, which accounts for barely 5,000 out of a total 2.4 million cars sold in the country last year. The market itself has other troubles. To start with, India has a lack of local production of components and batteries, negligible charging infr

CORSIA — the "Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation" (Fly green)

Image
CORSIA: World's biggest plan to make flying green 'too broken to fix' A new UN-brokered deal for aviation will not require airlines to offset flight emissions for another six years and will cost them less than 1% of operating costs by 2035. When Austrian judges let Vienna Airport build a third runway in 2018 — overruling a lower court that had previously blocked the expansion on environmental grounds — international climate agreements did not stand in their way. World leaders had not pledged to limit air traffic, the airport argued, but rather to grow it in a "climate-neutral" way. The scheme they cited might not achieve even that. CORSIA, the flagship emissions deal that launched this month, was brokered by the UN's International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to stop the sector's net greenhouse gas emissions from rising. But instead of tackling the growing number of flights between countries or capping their emissions, it forces airlines to b

Long road for Tesla in India

Long road for Tesla in India with infrastructure, supply chain woes It's also difficult to see how Tesla's sought-after and expensive autonomous driving features will work on India's congested roads. Tesla Inc is gearing up for an India launch but the U.S. electric car maker is likely to remain a niche player for years, catering only to the rich and affluent in the world's second-most populous nation. India's fledgling electric vehicle (EV) market accounted for only 5,000 out of a total 2.4 million cars sold in the country last year. A lack of local production of components and batteries, negligible charging infrastructure and the high cost of EVs mean there have been few takers in the price-conscious market. It's also difficult to see how Tesla's sought-after and expensive autonomous driving features will work on India's congested roads. Ammar Master, a forecaster at consultancy LMC Automotive, said he expects Tesla to annually sell only 50-10

Tesla’s challenges in India (21 January 2021 ) update

Tesla’s challenges in India Elon Musk’s electric car-making company, Tesla, is expected to soon start selling its base model in India. It is the first step for Musk’s company to enter India’s electric vehicle (EV) market before expanding further. While the news of Tesla’s entry in India has left many of its fans in the country jubilated, capturing the market can become the company’s hardest challenge so far. The company recently registered to open an office in the city of Bengaluru. A Bloomberg report suggests that Elon Musk is in talks with other Indian states to open showrooms and possibly a factory. According to the Bloomberg report, less than one per cent of vehicles sold in India are electric vehicles. Therefore, the real challenge for Tesla will be to create a niche for itself in the fuel-dominated auto market in India Challenges for Tesla in India India has been announcing measures to boost EV sales in the country, but they may not be enough to increase sales for expen

Electric Vehicles in India

Electric Vehicles in India India has recognized that EVs are the future of road transportation. However, even with EVs’ much higher energy efficiency and significantly fewer moving parts (and, thus, significantly higher reliability), customers often avoid purchasing EVs today only because of their higher costs. Because lithium (Li)-ion battery prices are falling rapidly, it is a matter of only a few years before EVs become a preferred vehicle in India. Only in 2017 did the industry and government take note that, if they failed to act, they would lose the race, and the country would be flooded with imported EVs. Besides, in most large cities, India’s air quality is incredibly poor. Petrol/diesel vehicles contribute significantly to such pollution, and EVs can provide the answer. Industry, academia, and research and design (R&D) personnel (with some government support) got together in 2017 and created a task force to figure out a solution. The group realized that EVs were bei

Green Hydrogen Will It Power The Future?

What Is Green Hydrogen And Will It Power The Future? Hydrogen is a clean-burning molecule, meaning that it can help to decarbonize a range of sectors that have proved hard to clean up in the past. But today, most hydrogen is produced from CO2-emitting fossil fuels. Hydrogen produced from renewable electricity, known as green hydrogen, could be the solution to cutting our carbon footprint. But first, it must overcome a number of challenges. Link below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYBGSfzaa4c
