Hyundai Motor India Foundation signs pact with FITT-IIT Delhi

Hyundai Motor India Foundation also donated a Kona Electric to FITT-IIT Delhi for NVH and battery technology research.

 Hyundai Motor India Foundation today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with FITT-IIT Delhi to help students in studying alternate energy powered vehicles and emerging technologies for innovating new-age mobility solutions. As part of the MoU, Hyundai Motor India Foundation also donated a Kona Electric to FITT-IIT Delhi for NVH and battery technology research. "We are glad to collaborate with FITT-IIT Delhi to support the research work of students of CART (Centre for Automotive Research and Tribology)," Hyundai Motor India MD and CEO S S Kim said. CART was established by IIT Delhi in May 2019 to promote research and development in the areas of battery electric vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles, storage and alternate energy sources, and autonomous and connected vehicles.

"As a caring and socially responsible brand, Hyundai strongly focuses on the development of new-age mobility solutions and future technologies that encompass the rapid shift towards alternate sources of clean energy. Our collaborated efforts with IIT Delhi and the donation of Kona Electric will provide an opportunity for students to study and develop insights towards a brighter & greener future for the generations to come," Kim added.

The Hyundai Kona Electric is equipped with a permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor (136PS/395Nm) paired with a 39.2kWh lithium-ion polymer battery. The electric SUV has an ARAI-certified range of 452km. The Kona price starts at Rs 23.76 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi). "I am happy to note that CART at IIT Delhi shall carry out various R&D projects with Hyundai in the broad area of e-mobility. IIT Delhi puts a lot of emphasis on engaging with industry in emerging technology areas. As per its mandate, FITT (Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer) at IIT Delhi shall play a key role in deepening our collaboration with Hyundai," IIT Delhi Director V Ramgopal Rao said.
